We rely on physical therapists to help measure a client for their mobility tryke and to refer clients to receive a tryke.

Through innovative programs, AMBUCS supports physical therapists and healthcare professionals in providing adaptive equipment that makes a lasting impact on patients’ lives.
At Wine Country Trykes, we are proud to be an AMBUCS chapter, working together to provide free, custom-designed Amtrykes® to children and adults with mobility challenges. Our mission is to collaborate with physical therapists to improve mobility, encourage independence, and bring joy to our recipients.

What is an Amtryke®?
An Amtryke® is a therapeutic tricycle that offers mobility and independence to individuals with disabilities. Designed with input from physical therapists, Amtrykes are adaptable for different needs and abilities. The therapeutic benefits include:

How Physical Therapists Can Get Involved?
1. Identify a Patient in Need – If you have a patient who could benefit from an adaptive tricycle, we want to help!
2. Provide Measurements – Using our measurement guide, you’ll help us customize the Amtryke for the patient’s specific needs.
3. Submit a Request – Reach out to Wine Country Trykes to start the process. We’ll work with you to ensure your patient receives their custom Amtryke.

In addition to the benefits previously mentioned, AMBUCS offers several incentives for physical therapists to engage with their programs:
Professional Development Opportunities
AMBUCS hosts Amtryke Evaluation & Fitting Training for Therapists (AEFT) across the country. This 7.5-hour course is certified by ProCert for 5 Continuing Competence Units (CCUs) for Physical Therapists in 34 states. State Occupational Therapy boards may also certify the course. These trainings enhance therapists’ skills in adaptive equipment assessment and fitting, broadening their professional expertise.
Scholarships for Therapy Students
Since 1955, National AMBUCS has awarded scholarships to students pursuing degrees in physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, and audiology. To date, more than $10 million in scholarships have been awarded to over 16,757 students. Therapists can encourage their students and interns to apply for these scholarships, supporting the next generation of clinicians.
Community Engagement and Networking
Collaborating with AMBUCS allows therapists to connect with a nationwide network of over 4,000 volunteers across more than 155 chapters in 37 states. This engagement fosters professional relationships and community involvement, enhancing therapists’ visibility and impact within their local areas.
Hands-On Experience with Adaptive Equipment
Through participation in programs like the Amtryke Adaptive Tricycle initiative, therapists gain practical experience in assessing, fitting, and utilizing adaptive equipment. This hands-on involvement is invaluable for professional growth and directly benefits patients by improving mobility and independence.
